14/15 Wanderers. Wanderers 0 - 57 Morpeth Reivers

Sat. 24th January 2015. Northern Wanderers vs Morpeth Reivers. Candy League 1 - home.

Wanderers lost 0 - 57 at home to Morpeth.  Match report thanks to Huw Reynolds.

While the weather at McCracken Park was bright and breezy, Northern Wanderers’ performance was the opposite – dull and lacklustre. After some excellent performances over recent weeks and with a strong side out, it is hard to understand why we were quite so poor. In fairness to Morpeth, they played well in tricky conditions and with some old heads at 8, 9 and 10, gave us a lesson in the art of ball retention. We probably had no more than 25% of the ball and when we did have it we neglected to run our patterns and committed too many players to the ruck making it easy for Morpeth to defend. There were of course glimpses of the true Northern, with Chris Ure continuing his run of good form, and this bodes well for upcoming matches – so long as we can get out ‘match heads’ on! Definitely one to file under ‘forget and move on’. Let’s focus on bouncing back next time out.
