Bishop Auckland were making their first visit to McCracken Park for this Candy League game and were delayed on the A1 so the teams kicked off 10 minutes late. A much changed Northern side were straight on the attack from the kick off not allowing Bishop to settle into the game and showed their intentions when kicking an early penalty to touch for a 5 metre line out. From the catch and drive, prop Matt Hearst powered over for the opening try on 3 minutes which fly half Donal Collins converted to turn the early pressure into points. From the restart Northern recycled the ball and fly half Donal Collins made a good break from the half way and by using supporting wing Alan Evans as a decoy, managed to make the line for an unconverted try out wide on 5 minutes. Bishop rallied at this point and were able to apply pressure with their big forwards on a series of Northern scrums and won a five metre scrum against the head for their number 8 to pick up and score a converted try under the posts on 9 minutes. This proved to be a wake-up call for Northern and some fine play and good hands saw Northern break from their own 22 with a mazy run from full back Connor Chamberlain taking play up to the Bishop 22 where a slick pass put supporting wing Alan Evans in for a try which fly half Donal Collins converted on 20 minutes. Northern added another score on 30 minutes when a good scrum on halfway provided quick ball to the backs and centre Chris Raffo looping round powered through a gap to run in a fine solo unconverted try out wide. Northern finished the half with a further score from a textbook blindside scrum move where right wing James Pattinson was put away to sprint in for a try out wide that fly half Donal Collins converted on 34 minutes. Half time score: Northern Wanderers31–Bishop Auckland 7.
Northern continued to turn the screw in the second half when on 47 minutes they drove Bishop off their own scrum and moved the ball quickly through the hands to centre Chris Raffo who surged on and passed to looping fly half Donal Collins who continued the move for an unconverted try out wide on 47 minutes. Then on 52 minutes fly half Donal Collins made a good half break and passed to supporting wing James Pattinson who was just hauled down in the Bishop 22. The supporting Northern players quickly recycled the ball and centre Chris Raffo was able to brush off a couple of defenders to score a try under the posts that he converted himself. Northern then scored a superb individual try when full back Connor Chamberlain broke out from his own 22 and outpaced the Bishop defenders to score under the posts on 65 minutes which he converted himself. Northern scored their last try of the game when right wing James Pattinson ran from his own half stepping several defenders and outpacing the covering full back for a fine try out wide on 69 minutes.
