13/14 Panthers. Panthers - Datchworth

Before the game Datchworth petitioned for two thirty minute halves but Brian Donkin bludgeoned them into accepting four twenty minute quarters.

The Datchworth team were mostly in their forties and fifties with a full back aged sixty one. In the first twenty minutes the Panthers fielded a team of predominately young lads who had obviously never read ‘The Art Of Coarse Rugby’ by Michael Greene. These young lads “cheated”; not only did they run but they ran fast and moreover passed the ball to each other!

Needless to say a cricket score ended the quarter.

In the second twenty minutes Northern decided to go for the jugular and brought on the ‘Big Guns’ - Rammy, Eric Armstrong, Richard Moffat, Kaino et al. Trench warfare ensued but nobody can remember the score.

For the last two quarters the young lads were split between the two teams and an excellent game developed - good to watch and enjoyable for all the players.

Après match was blessed with unexpected Autumn sunshine on the verandah.

Deano resurrected the Yard of Ale glass and umpteen refills were completed without an overall victor highlighting. Datchworth brought a funnel with plastic tubing which conveyed liquid at a great rate of knots down throats.

A Sing Song in the Terrace Bar ensued before Datchworth departed for the bright lights of ‘The Toon’
