1st XV won 44 – 0 at home to Novos. Match report thanks to Walter Ritchie:
Both teams and the officials are to be congratulated on producing an entertaining game of rugby in, quite frankly, atrocious conditions. The ground, already saturated, soon cut up but this did not stop Northern dominating all facets of the game and the handling, especially by the Northern pack, produced the goods and they were rewarded with 7 tries and a further try by debutant James Standfield at fly half who proved he is more than comfortable at first team level. The only downside was that only two tries were converted, not surprising with conditions that even the great JW would have found difficult. Novo's, to their credit, never gave up and Northern were made to defend the nil score.
Try scores: Chalky White (3) and Laurie Troke, Phil Kay, Lawrence Annis and Robbie Harnby with one try converted by Ali Gray and one by Ryan Moore.
Another interesting statistic was the very welcome presence of the parents of 6 of the team - may it long continue! We travel to Ryton, whom we beat comprehensively at home, next Saturday but the game has to be won so we look forward to your continued support.
