1st XV narrowly lost at home 5 - 10 to Percy Park. Match report thanks to Walter Ritchie
So near but so far when we welcomed our oldest friends and rivals Percy Park and lost 5 - 10. A victory would have all but confirmed our league position mid-table. We opened up with elements slightly in our favour and although missing a long penalty were quickly on the score board when Paddy Harperscored in the corner after Owen Clemett caught Park napping with quickly taken free kick. Although Northern pressed they were unable to create good field positions and also failed to score from two lineout catch-and-drives. Park came into the game and reduced the arrears with a penalty when Phil Ludford was carded. Half time 5-3.The game descended into a war of attrition, knock-ons and stoppages with a rather fussy referee who arguably spoiled the game although Park did produce a piece of quality and scored a fine try in the corner which was improved with a great kick. Northern responded and only the familiar curse of “white line fever" and chances missed due to poor handling and overlaps not being exploited prevented a home score.
A very disappointing result but the losing bonus may prove crucial. Next Saturday we travel to league leaders Sheffield with hopefully our best side and to be honest Sheffield look beatable. Bus leaves at 10.15 No internationals to distract so please come along enjoy the Fortnum and Mason fare!!!"
