14/15 1st XV. 1st XV 43 - 13 West Hartlepool

On a perfect afternoon for rugby Northern started well and early pressure produced points with a Donal Collins drop goal and penalty.  Continued pressure resulted in a try from back row Ed Cawthorne and a second Donal penalty. An early injury to second row Rob Kinnell allowed Alan Douglas to take the field.   At the stroke of half-time West were successful with a penalty to take the score to 14 - 3. West started the second half strongly and were rewarded with a penalty to reduce their arrears. A first half injury to hooker Ross Keane meant that Northern had some difficulties in both the line-out and scrums but Northern's backs responded to the challenge. Another penalty from Donal was followed by two splendid tries from centre Chris Young, both converted by Donal. West's challenge was not helped when one of their players was sent for an early shower and Northern obtained a bonus point with a try from Dom Fawcett following a Donal kick to space on the wing. Some West pressure produced a converted try but Northern had the last word with a try from Jamie Crowther after some fine interplay initiated by captain James Ellis
