With both sides looking for their first win of the season the rain stopped, the sun came out, the pitch was in perfect condition and the crowd was entertained to a game with 10 tries being scored.
Northern started strongly and after good breaks by scrum half Sam Thorne and centre Chris Young it was Gregg Littlewood, playing centre, who scored after 5 minutes. Fly half Donal Collins converted to put Northern into a 7 - 0 lead. Old Crossleyans came back strongly to level the score after 12 minutes.
From the restart Northern kept the play in Old Crocs half and forward pressure from a line out put Ed Cawthorne in for a try, converted by Donal Collins. From the restart Northern ran the ball from their own 22 for captain James Ellis to score, again converted by Donal Collins. With 10 minutes to go to half-time Northern's Ed Cawthorne was yellow-carded and with the extra man Old Crocs scored a pushover try to bring the score to 21 - 12 at half time.
Northern struck first in the second half with a try from Tom McCullough, converted by Donal Collins, to obtain a 4-try bonus point. Old Crocs responded with a try wide out only for Northern to stretch their lead with a try from replacement Paddy Harper, converted by Gregg Littlewood. At this stage Old Crocs were looking for bonus points and achieved this with their 4th try. However they were denied a losing bonus point when Northern's Ed Cawthorne scored his second try in the final minute.
