So you decided not to go to Driffield – may be just as well for after two comfortable wins the wheels came off last Saturday with a thumping 52 – 15 defeat at the hands of Driffield. We were dramatically outgunned all over the park and somehow contrived to cough up the ball all too easily allowing Driffield to speed away to score 7 converted tries. Our response was 2 tries by Matt Brown and Jon Coffey with a conversion and a penalty from Donal Collins.
Although the conditions favoured Northern in the first half we found it difficult to establish any continuous pattern to our play – last minute changes to the pack did not help but this could not explain why we fell so far from the excellent performance against Rochdale.
At half-time Driffield led 17 – 3 and then in the second-half they took advantage of the slope and breeze to run out easy winners.
Back to the drawing board for Northern to prepare to entertain the runaway league leaders, Cleckheaton, at home on March 22nd. With relegation still a “faint” possibility we still have to produce our very best.
