Sadly, after three outstanding wins against leading opposition, we have slumped to three disappointing defeats to clubs in the relegation zone which means that a win next Saturday, away at Malton & Norton, becomes even more vital. No pressure then!
With the fierce wind mainly in Northern’s favour we began well with a penalty from Donal Collins followed by a try from Pat Power converted by Donal. Although Boro did create a try from nothing Northern maintained the territorial advantage but was unable to capitalise. Whilst the lineout functioned well throughout the game the scrum proved to be somewhat of a problem – a wee bit of gamesmanship by Boro did not help!
Unfortunately the wind in the second half increased further and became an important factor. Boro gained confidence with the wind in their backs and scored an unconverted try when Northern failed to secure a bouncing ball – this was followed by a penalty to level the scores at 13 all.
Northern showed their determination with Gary Andrews scoring in the corner after some excellent Northern handling but then 2 yellow cards disrupted the team and Boro, sniffing victory, crossed by the posts in the 79th minute. The try was converted to give Boro victory by 2 points.
Yes a losing bonus point was obtained, but in reality a win should have been on the cards and on another day should have been.
