13/14 1st XV. Rochdale 22 - 17 1st XV

In keeping with the Halloween theme Northern “tricked” Rochdale during the first 50 minutes of the game into thinking they would win comfortably by allowing them to score 4 tries, one of which was converted, against a Donal Collins penalty for Northern.
For the remainder of the game Northern produced the “treat” by scoring two converted tries. The first was from Olly Holtam after a line out catch and drive followed by a spectacular 60 meter sprint down the wing by skipper Alex Clark outpacing the covering Rochdale defence. Both conversions were thanks to Donal.
Continued pressure by Northern was matched by Rochdale’s tigerish defence allowing them to hold on and claim the victory. Northern’s losing bonus point seemed little reward for the squad’s brave efforts.
The Halloween theme continued after the game with the entire squad dressing up in ghostly and frightening costumes providing a fitting end to Northern’s only visit to Lancashire this season.
